Writing in Mathematics: Round 2

I have always wanted to use writing within my mathematics classroom. Ever since practicum each of my lessons have included the use of a journal. However, while writing these entries it has made me think about how to use them more efficiently. When writing you start to think about the things in the back of your head. For example, when writing this I realized what some of my weaknesses were in Praxis II when writing about misconceptions and pre-requisite skills. I also think that if you truly understand something to its fullest you are able to explain it to another person with words. The use of writing helps us to truly explain our understanding.

My feelings on writing in the classroom have not necessarily changed since starting on this journey through EDU 361. Instead they have changed. I have realized its importance in the classroom for a while now, however I have realized a big part of why it is so important. From an educators point of view it is a great resource for student feedback but after using it as a student I've realized that it is also great a great opportunity to explore the deep, dark depths of your mind.
