Working with Gifted Students

I have not worked with students who I have been specifically informed were considered to be gifted students but I have worked with students who are in AP classes or are taking high school level math classes while at the middle school. I think that sometimes it can be harder to teach these students. When I was in practicum I had 2 honors classes and an AP class. These students were often the ones who I struggled to work with because they either hounded you over their grades or sometimes even felt that they knew better than I did when it came to the materials and the assignments. This was really frustrating for me because I felt like I didn’t know how to help them get the most out of their education.
With my student who I worked with who was taking a high school class while at the middle school she often times appreciated the help that I had to offer because many of her teachers had not touched the material that she was learning in years. Not many middle school students are taking Algebra 2. However, there were still times that I felt I had to review the material a bit before I could help her with it which was tough. I also feel like it was hard for her because she didn’t really have many peers which she could go to for assistance when we were stuck because her classmates were all at the high school.
