Teaching in a Middle School versus a High School

I think that the major difference between teaching in a middle school versus a high school is the place the students are in their development. In the high school students have passed puberty and they have come to settle in their day to day lives. This makes it harder for teachers to connect with many of them because they have shut themselves off to others now that they feel they have found their place. In middle school students are still experiencing all of these changes (mentally, socially, physically, etc) so they are a bit more receptive to what you are trying to do as a teacher and the relationship you are attempting to build. Of course there are exceptions to this but I have found that this tends to be a general idea. I also think that middle schoolers are still working on learning how to be themselves so they are willing to listen to what others have to say about them and advice that they are being offered. High school students on the other hand have determined who they are and what they want to do so they feel that there is no other advice to be offered ot them that they really need to pay attemtion to.
